Christian Meditation it simply means “Being with God” or in other terms coming to God, sitting before him, and dwelling in his presence. There is nothing more pleasurable than being in the presence of God and dwelling on his love and character.
It sounds easy, right? However, there is always something that gets in our way of being with God. But the real question is “what comes in our way”? The answer is quite simple. It’s “our thoughts.” That’s what gets in the way of our “being with God.”
Whenever we try to be with God, we start thinking about other things. When we dwell in God’s presence there could be good or bad thoughts. The thoughts distract us and keep us from concentrating on God. Now, what could we do to keep the focus on Lord? What should we do to help ourselves arrive at God’s presence?
Surely, it is not possible to stop our thoughts. However, we can always refrain from attending to them. There is one kind of Christian meditation wherein one meditates on the sacred word of God—the scriptures. The scripture phrase could help us bring our divided attention back into focus and we can attend solely to God and our minds will not wander off.
Christian Meditation to Renew Our Minds
Jesus once said that He will keep in perfect peace someone whose mind is fixed and meditating on him. When our mind starts wandering and gets random thoughts, we only need to repeat lines from scripture or a sacred word and this will help bring our attention back to God and we can dwell in his presence.
Here are some of the sacred words/scripture phrases that you can use: “Lord,” “Saviour,” “Jesus,” Holy Spirit,” “Father,” “God,” “Creator,” “Faith,” “Trust,” “Peace,” and “Love,” which are all in the Holy Bible. You may choose scripture phrases from The Lord’s Prayer, Proverbs 3, or Psalm 23. Before you can recall them, you first need to memorize them. To help you focus on the scripture phrase or sacred word, you can quiet your mind further by playing soft music in the background.
Christian Meditation: Becoming Still Before the Lord
According to the Holy Bible, God must be worshipped in spirit and in truth. Since the Kingdom of God is within each one of us, we can connect with that Kingdom by accessing God through our hearts. We can experience him by his word. In order to do this, we need to learn to be still so that his presence and his spirit can fill us through. We need to create a space in our hearts for him. If all these things are new to you, you can start by doing this for five minutes and you can then slowly move to 20 minutes a day. It would help if you set a timer.
Christian meditation is all about meditating on God’s presence and his word. There are many different forms of Christian meditation. If you are meditating for the sake of releasing the stress then the method would be quite different from that of a person who only wants to become closer to God.
Christian Meditation: Being With God
Christian Meditation can be described as “Being with God.” You might have experienced a moment in service when the presence of God is strong enough. You definitely want to linger in God’s presence forever. If you meditate on God properly then you will have a similar experience. All you need to do is become still and attend to God’s presence. You need to create an environment inside of you wherein you can be still in the Lord. Psalms 46:10 states “be still and know that I am God.”
