As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Do you know that your life, situation, and attitude is in direct correlation to the thoughts that you think? Our thoughts are like prayers. The more attention we give to positive or negative thoughts, the greater their capacity to manifest. Limiting beliefs are usually subconscious thoughts (often adopted in childhood) that keep you from reaching your potential. One effective way to overcome limiting beliefs is by using Christian affirmations. Limiting beliefs have one end, to counter every truth of God’s word over our lives. They become the stumbling blocks upon which we are falsely persuaded that what God says cannot be real to us. Therefore, in order to reap the benefits of God’s word in our lives, we have to let go of any limiting beliefs that we may be holding on to.
Our words are very powerful, more powerful than we think. Proverbs 18:21 says that “life and death are in the power of the tongue.” With our words, we can add value and with them we can also destroy the hope within our hearts. The tone and quality of our words stems from the mode our hearts are living in. A heart that has lost hope will inspire words that speak defeat and discouragement. Paul says, ‘’we believe (in our hearts), so we speak.” 2 Corinthians 4:13 Every believer must strive to speak as God would even in the circumstances and situations of everyday life. This is the duty of everyone who believes in Christ for we have been called to “guard our heart diligently, for out of it flows the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 It may not be easy but one simple way of activating yourself in this reality is to make use of Christian affirmations based on God’s kingdom principles.
How do affirmations work and what makes them effective? Christian affirmations destroy limiting beliefs by helping us live in the power of every truth God has released into our lives. Like I had mentioned, for God’s word to work, anything that stands in its way must be destroyed including our own thoughts and destructive words. 2 Corinthians 10:5 declares, “Casting down every thought that raises itself up against the knowledge of God.”
Christian affirmations based on God’s word do just that. They destroy wrong and deceptive thoughts about God and what he says. They are effective because what we confess, we possess. For instance, God tells us in Psalms 138:8, that he will perfect that which concerns us, so when we are faced with a challenge affecting our health, finance, relationships or career, and we daily affirm this truth, we begin to build up faith and conviction in our hearts that God will do that which he said he will.
For example, there is a tendency among many people to feel unworthy, to battle with low-self esteem, or to become people-pleasers. The limiting belief manifesting itself in these situations might be, “I just can’t measure up!” However, reality of God word declares, “I am complete in Christ.” (Colossians 2:10) By making this Christian affirmation over and over again, this truth can take root in your heart and manifest the boldness and confidence of who you are as a child of God.
